Chelsea F.C and Tottenham Hotspur to headline the 2026 Sydney Super Cup in history-making London Derby

SYDNEY, 8th December 2026 – Sydney is set to take centre stage in world football with the announcement of the 2026 Sydney Super Cup, a blockbuster football festival that will bring the iconic London Derby between Chelsea F.C and Tottenham Hotspur to Australian soil for the very first time.

The two Premier League giants will face each other in an historic showdown on August 1, 2026 headlining two massive weeks of football across the city.

Chelsea and Tottenham will anchor a four-match series, with the action also featuring the Chelsea F.C Women’s team taking on the A-League All Stars Women on August 12. This offers a great opportunity to see global superstars like Chelsea’s Sam Kerr and Ellie Carpenter and other top Australian talent, with the A-League All Stars Women’s team likely to feature a number of Matildas.

The remaining matches will feature two A-League Men’s clubs, as Western Sydney Wanderers clash with Chelsea on Tuesday, July 28 and Sydney FC take on Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, July 29.

The rivalry between Premier League heavyweights Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur is one of the fiercest and most storied in English football, renowned for its intensity, atmosphere and high-stakes encounters. Every meeting carries the weight of history, the noise of two passionate fan bases, and the promise that anything can happen. To have this globally recognised derby come to Sydney marks a major moment for football fans in Australia and cements Sydney’s status as Australia’s home of world-class football.

Next year’s event marks the highly anticipated return of the Sydney Super Cup, following its successful inaugural staging in 2022, which saw Scottish giants Celtic take on Premier League club Everton. The tournaments’ continuation reaffirms its status as a premier fixture on the global football calendar, bringing world-class matchups to Sydney.

With the immense global following of both Premier League clubs and the high-profile women’s match, tickets are expected to sell out fast to all four games.

“As we work towards our goal of a $91 billion visitor economy, major events like this are crucial TO create memorable experiences that inspire visitors to stay longer, return again and explore more of our great state.”

Rachael Carroll Managing Director, TEG Sport said:

“This is a truly brilliant occasion for football fans across Australia. To bring a clash of this magnitude, a London Derby, to the Harbour City is historic and the first time they’ve played against each other outside the UK. With four world-class matches over two weeks, including the fantastic Chelsea Women’s F.C, we are delivering an epic football festival. We encourage fans to get tickets when they go on sale this Friday; demand will be incredibly high.”

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach, Thomas Frank, said:

“Sydney is one of the world’s most iconic locations for sport and I’m excited to be able to take the team there to play two matches, including one against one of our biggest rivals.

“I’ve heard all about our passionate fanbase in Australia and it’s something the Club is very proud of. I can’t wait to experience that for myself and I know the supporters will love the opportunity to watch us take on Sydney FC and Chelsea in their home country.

“While in Sydney, as well as engaging with our fans, it’s important that we explore the local area and celebrate its culture – that is something we are all looking forward to.”

“Sydney will also underline its reputation as the world’s premier destination city by bringing traditional Premier League London derby rivals Spurs and Chelsea together, continuing over a century of hostilities in their first meeting down under.”

Playing Chelsea FC, the reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions, for the very first time in our history is something our players, members, and the Western Sydney community will never forget. To host a team of Chelsea’s calibre on home soil, as part of the Sydney Super Cup, is a landmark occasion for Australian football and a chance for us to test ourselves against some of the best in the world. We can’t wait to make history together.”
